Bahrain’s Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs has signed a pivotal agreement with Edamah, the real estate subsidiary of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, to enhance the integration of renewable energy solutions across the kingdom. The agreement was formalised by Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of Edamah.

The collaboration involves the Ministry providing technical support and advice to Edamah on incorporating sustainable energy practices into its facilities and buildings. This partnership is designed to support Bahrain’s National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) and emphasises Edamah's role in advancing national sustainability goals.

Minister Humaidan highlighted that this initiative aligns with Bahrain’s strategic framework to optimise and sustain energy resources. He commended Edamah for its proactive approach in adopting renewable energy, particularly advancements in solar panel technology, which contribute to the objectives of the NREAP.

Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Khalifa expressed gratitude to the Ministry for its support and reiterated Edamah’s commitment to promoting a green economy. He emphasised that the company’s efforts to employ renewable energy sources are crucial for achieving Bahrain’s target of reducing emissions by 30 percent by 2035 and attaining carbon neutrality by 2060.

The NREAP aims to increase the share of renewable energy in Bahrain’s total energy mix from 5 percent by 2025 to 20 percent by 2035, reflecting the kingdom’s ambitious sustainability and environmental goals.
