The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in the Kingdom of Bahrain has partnered with Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad Esco), a subsidiary of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
The collaboration aims to implement the 'Kafa'a' programme, marking a crucial move towards establishing a Super ESCO (Etihad Energy Services) in Bahrain.
With the objective of bolstering energy efficiency efforts, EWA believes that partnering with Etihad Energy Services, with its extensive 11-year experience in implementing similar programmes in Dubai, will ensure the successful execution of 'Kafa’a'. This programme targets buildings with high electricity consumption in both public and private sectors, in collaboration with Energy Service Companies (ESCOs).
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, expressed his appreciation for the partnership, highlighting its value for both entities. He affirmed that DEWA would contribute by offering advisory services to implement energy-efficient solutions, thereby reducing energy costs and supporting EWA’s strategic goals.
President of EWA, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, highlighted the significance of 'Kafa’a' in achieving the Authority's strategic objectives related to energy efficiency and consumption reduction in Bahrain. He emphasized the importance of the partnership with Etihad Energy Services in adopting energy-efficient technologies to position Bahrain as a regional leader in energy efficiency.
Highlighting Etihad Energy Services' extensive experience, particularly in Dubai, the President expressed confidence in the successful implementation of the 'Kafa’a' programme in Bahrain.
Notably, EWA launched the 'Kafa’a' programme last December, focusing on reducing electricity consumption in buildings across public and private sectors. Following a successful pilot project, in collaboration with several companies, the Authority achieved a remarkable 41 percent annual reduction in energy consumption, accompanied by a 39 percent decrease in bills. Moreover, the initiative led to a substantial reduction of 5,430 tonnes of carbon emissions.
