The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Department (UPNEDA) has undertaken the task to transform Ayodhya into Uttar Pradesh's  first 'solar city', officials said. Thus, Preparations are in full swing for inaugural of "solar city" in anticipation of the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple, slated for January.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and around 10,000 dignitaries from across the nation are set to attend the 'pran pratishtha (consecration)' ceremony, scheduled for January 22. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is personally overseeing the ongoing solarization efforts in Ayodhya.

The ambitious project encompasses establishing a solar park along the banks of the Saryu River, deploying solar-powered boats, installing solar streetlights, integrating solar energy into public transport, and electrifying government buildings using solar power.

This initiative aligns with Uttar Pradesh's Solar Energy Policy 2022, which aims to create 16 'solar cities,' with Ayodhya as the model for implementation.

More projects worth INR 1 lakh crore in the renewable energy sector will soon go on the ground in Uttar Pradesh, state's Additional Chief Secretary for Renewable Energy, Mahesh Gupta said.

The senior bureaucrat said the state received investment proposals worth about INR 7.50 lakh crore during the UP Global Investors Summit in Lucknow earlier this year.

One of the most significant aspects of the plan is the 40 MW solar plant by NTPC Green on the Saryu's banks, with 10 MW expected to be operational by January.

The installation of solar panels on government buildings, solar streetlights, and solar trees is also underway.

The project additionally includes solar-powered EV charging stations, cold storage facilities, and water kiosks, all slated for completion by January.

Once Ayodhya meets 10% of its electricity demand through renewable power, it will be designated a 'solar city' according to the Solar Energy Policy. UPNEDA is confident of reaching this milestone in the initial phase by January.
