Queensland’s XXXX brewery will be using 100 percent renewable electricity after signing an agreement to power the recognizable XXXX brewery at Milton with electricity from the Woolooga Solar Farm in southeast Queensland.
Lion-owned XXXX Brewery has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to reassure 100% of the electricity needs for the XXXX brewery in Brisbane, Australia, from the AUD 130 million ($90 million) Woolooga solar farm.
The Woolooga project, under development near Gympie, Queensland, by oil giant bp’s renewables joint venture with UK solar company Lightsource – has already commissioned generation. It is anticipated to get full production soon this year.
The brewing will also procure renewable energy certificates from the Woolooga solar farm for electricity consumption in other states of Australia, implying the company will reach its goal to become the first huge scale brewer in Australia to procure 100 percent renewable electricity two years ahead of schedule.
Before commissioning the PPA with bp, about 25 per cent of the electricity used by Lion breweries was renewable, extracted from a mixture of rooftop solar and a 100 percent renewable PPA in New South Wales.
The 2,200 solar panels installed on the roof of the Milton brewery in 2019 will progress to make a significant share to achieve XXXX’s sustainability targets.
Lion became Australia’s first certified big-scale carbon-neutral brewer in 2022 and by 2050, it aims to achieve a net-zero value chain.
The brewery, perhaps, 144 years old firm Lion maintains its transferable transition to solar shows Lion’s enthusiasm towards the engrossed commitment to sustainability.
