Automotive Test Systems (ATS) and Amrita University have launched a new test facility at the latter's campus in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
The new EV lab which has been set up as an extension of an existing lab facility - Amrita Automotive Research and Technology Centre (AARTC) - in the university's campus, is dedicated for electric vehicle testing.
The EV lab houses a 48kW electric motor test bench, battery test lab, and a simulation lab, and will enable industry-academia conncet by enabling research in the growing area of electric vehicles. The facility also features software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) labs integrated with the test bench.
The new lab was inaugurated by Latha Chembrakalam, VP and Head of Technical Centre India, Continental Automotive; Ramadhas Arumugam Sakunthalai, Director, GARC; Rajesh D, VP, Volvo Group Trucks Technology; Bhaktha Keshavachar, CEO, Chara Technologies, and Ramanathan Srinivasan, MD, ATS. The inaguration event also witnessed a two-day workshop on Sustainable Mobility at the Amrita University campus in Coimbatore.
According to Ramanathan Srinivasan, MD, ATS, "The AARTC has completed 10 years of operation and has been supporting the industry and academia, helping them to conduct research on various domains, including powertrain, emission testing, RLDA vehicle dynamics, NVH, and ADAS, among others. It is enabling them to develop safer and reliable products."
The lab also features an existing 160kW test bench, as well as a chassis dynamometer, which are claimed to being extensively used by the automotive industry for the testing and development of EV components such as electric motors, and motor controllers.
