Aslan Energy Capital, a Singapore-based energy company, and PT Calypte Sugi Power of Indonesia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop a large-scale power generation hub on Sugi Island, located in the Riau Islands Province of Indonesia. The power hub aims to focus on sustainable clean energy, particularly solar power generation.

The project’s initial phase will focus on the development of 1 GW of solar power capacity by the third quarter of 2026, with plans to expand up to 2 GW by the fourth quarter of 2027. As per the firm, the location on Sugi Island offers ideal conditions for solar energy development, including favorable solar irradiance, flat terrain, and a strategic geographic position, making it a prime site for renewable energy.

Dr. Muthu Chezhian, CEO of Aslan Energy Capital, emphasised the importance of the Sugi Power Hub as part of the company’s mission to build a sustainable energy portfolio. He noted that the project aligns with Indonesia's goals of becoming a leader in green energy in Southeast Asia and supports the ESG and SDG targets of both the Riau Province and Indonesia as a whole.

Han Fook Kwang, Chief Development Director of PT Calypte Sugi Power, expressed confidence in the partnership with Aslan Energy Capital, highlighting the company's expertise and understanding of the Indonesian market. He noted that feasibility studies have been completed with positive results, and the project is advancing towards detailed engineering, with a Final Investment Decision (FID) expected by the second quarter of 2025.

Aslan Energy Capital focuses on the development, operation, and management of renewable energy assets, particularly in the Renewable Hydrogen, Renewable Ammonia, and Sustainable Energy sectors. PT Calypte Sugi Power, a subsidiary of Calypte Holding Pte Ltd, is dedicated to the development of power generation projects on Sugi Island, contributing to Indonesia’s broader energy and industrial ambitions.
