The Arab League has launched the Arab Common Electricity Market, a transformative initiative aimed at deepening regional integration in the electrical energy sector.

The announcement came during the 15th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, held in Egypt's New Administrative Capital. Ministers and delegations from 22 Arab countries participated, culminating in the signing of two critical agreements: the General Agreement, which establishes the market's goals and developmental mechanisms, and the Market Agreement, which defines its institutional and commercial framework. The agreements were signed by the UAE, Kuwait, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Morocco, and Jordan, signaling a unified commitment to regional energy collaboration.

The Arab Common Electricity Market aims to enhance the stability of electricity supplies, reduce energy costs, and encourage investments in renewable energy sources. By fostering cooperation and shared infrastructure among member states, the initiative seeks to position the Arab region as a global leader in clean energy exports. In addition to supporting economic growth, the market is designed to improve electricity consumption efficiency and facilitate large-scale developmental projects.

These efforts align with the national energy strategies of the participating countries, strengthening their collective ability to meet growing energy demands while adhering to global sustainability goals.

This initiative marks a significant step toward creating a unified Arab energy network, leveraging the region’s vast energy resources and expertise. By promoting innovation, energy security, and sustainable development, the Arab Common Electricity Market is poised to play a pivotal role in transforming the energy landscape of the Arab world.
