Applied Materials announced that it was named by the Ethisphere Institute, the leading business ethics think-tank, as one of the 2013 World’s Most Ethical Companies.
"We are honored to be named to Ethisphere’s World’s Most Ethical Companies list for the second year in a row,” said Charmaine F. Mesina, corporate vice president of legal affairs and company ombudsman at Applied Materials. “For more than 45 years, Applied has modeled its core values on ethics and integrity. This prestigious award recognizes our global employees’ commitment to the highest ethical standards.”
According to Ethisphere, Applied secured a hard-earned spot on the list by promoting a culture of integrity and business practices that are instrumental to the company’s success, benefit the community, and raise the bar for ethical standards within its industry.
“Applied Materials understands the importance of operating from a strong ethical foundation and how this impacts all parts of the company, ranging from employee retention and recruitment, to culture and financial performance,” said Alex Brigham, executive director of the Ethisphere Institute. “As more companies develop initiatives to expand their ethics programs across entire industries, Applied’s inclusion as a World’s Most Ethical Company for 2013 is a testament to its exemplary commitment to ethics and integrity.”
This is the seventh year Ethisphere has published their rankings and the second year in which Applied Materials participated in the application process. Ethisphere evaluated a record number of nominations and applications using its proprietary methodology to identify companies that surpassed their industry peers. The 2013 list features 138 companies in more than three dozen industries, including 40 companies headquartered outside the United States.
The methodology for the WME ranking includes reviewing codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories; evaluating the investment in innovation and sustainable business practices; looking at activities designed to improve corporate citizenship; and studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers.
