Andhra Pradesh Seeks Central Support on Thermal Power Infra and VGF Support for BESS
The Andhra Pradesh government has sought central assistance on power allocation, coal linkage, renovation of older thermal units, and viability gap funding (VGF) for battery energy storage systems (BESS) during Union Power Minister Manohar Lal's review of the state's power and urban development sectors.

The Andhra Pradesh State government has requested central government support in a number of issues including power allocation, coal linkage, renovation and modernisation of older thermal units and viability gap funding (VGF) support for battery energy storage systems (BESS).
These issues were discussed during a visit to the state by Union Minister of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal to review the power and urban development sector.
The state request for allocation of power from the proposed thermal power plant by Coal India Ltd. (CIL), utilising coal linkage from Talcher mines under SHAKTI policy, coal linkage for thermal power station in Srikakulam and support for renovation and modernisation of older thermal units.
The state also sought support under the VGF scheme for battery energy storage systems (BESS) and for the allocation of concessional coal under the existing fuel supply agreement between SEIL and MCL.
The Minister assured support on issues related to the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), BESS and coal linkage issues related to thermal power plants. He also highlighted the role of RDSS in bringing improvement in the electricity distribution sector and in strengthening electricity distribution infrastructure and advised the State to expeditiously implement the works sanctioned under RDSS.
Lal further advised the state government to take up smart metering works in a phased manner, prioritising the government establishments.
Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ponguru Narayana and Minister for Housing, I&PR Kolusu Parthasarathi were present at the meeting. The meeting was also attended by senior officials from the state government and officials from the central government from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Power along with officials from the Power Finance Corporation (PFC).
During the meeting, matters related to power generation, transmission and distribution in the state of Andhra Pradesh were discussed. Further, issues related to the execution of works under RDSS, the current requirements of the state and the possible solutions were discussed.
