Amazon, the global IT giant, has announced the addition of 39 new renewable energy projects in Europe. These projects encompass 24 utility-scale wind and solar initiatives and represent Amazon's commitment to sustainability in the region.

The cumulative renewable energy capacity added by Amazon in Europe now exceeds 1 GW, distributed across grids in 13 European countries.

These initiatives include over 160 wind and solar projects and will result in a clean energy capacity of 5.8 GW once operational. This substantial capacity will have the capacity to power over 4.9 million British households annually.

Lindsay McQuade, Director of Energy, EMEA at Amazon, emphasised the company's commitment to providing clean energy to local grids, fostering job creation, and supporting local businesses. Amazon has set an ambitious goal to power its operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2025, and these investments play a pivotal role in achieving this objective.

McQuade also noted the significance of corporate investment in driving the transition to a clean energy future and expressed Amazon's commitment to collaborating with governments, local communities, and energy providers across Europe to increase the integration of renewable energy into local grids.

Renewable energy is a central focus for Amazon, which added an impressive 8.3 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2022.

The expansion of solar photovoltaic capacity, including both utility-scale and distributed systems, plays a crucial role in the global increase in renewable capacity, with Europe being a notable driver of regulatory changes to facilitate clean energy growth in recent years.

These developments reflect the momentum and commitment of both private and public entities towards a sustainable and renewable energy future in Europe.
