Amazon has announced investments in three new wind energy projects across India, reinforcing its commitment to powering operations with 100 percent renewable energy. The projects include wind farms in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, adding over 379 MW of clean energy.
As part of this effort, Amazon has partnered with CleanMax, BluPine, and JSW Energy in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, respectively. As per the firm's statement, these projects include a 100 MW wind farm at CleanMax Koppal in Karnataka, a 99 MW project at BluPine Solapur in Maharashtra, and a 180 MW facility at JSW Energy Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu. Together, these projects will generate enough energy to power 1.3 million homes annually and contribute to Amazon’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 as part of its Climate Pledge commitment.
Avinash Shekhar, Head of APJC Energy and Water Strategy at AWS, said, “Amazon is committed to driving the carbon-free energy transition forward in both India and around the world, which will help us all address climate change at scale. As the top corporate purchaser of solar and wind energy since 2020, we’ve invested in more than 600 solar and wind projects globally, including more than 50 in India, which is part of our Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2040.”
Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways, Electronics and Information Technology, and Information and Broadcasting, also praised Amazon’s investment in clean energy. Vaishnaw remarked, “Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji, India is rapidly emerging as a global leader in the clean energy transition. Investments from companies like Amazon are accelerating this progress. Clean energy is not only about sustainability; it is central to our goal of producing 50 percent of our electricity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030. As we expand our digital and transportation infrastructure, renewable energy will play a crucial role in powering the next wave of connectivity and innovation.”
Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State of Power and New and Renewable Energy, said, "I welcome Amazon's continued commitment to India's renewable energy transition. Investments in wind and solar projects are crucial for achieving our renewable energy targets and ensuring energy security. These projects will not only contribute to a cleaner environment but also generate employment and foster economic growth in local communities. The Government of India remains committed to its efforts to support such initiatives, and I encourage other global corporations to invest in our green energy future."
Commenting on this partnership, Kuldeep Jain, Managing Director of CleanMax, said, "CleanMax is proud to be enabling new renewable energy opportunities with Amazon. As a company that has always championed sustainability, CleanMax is elated to collaborate with Amazon to help decarbonize its operations while also advancing the green energy landscape."
As per the firm, the wind farm at Koppal, Karnataka, is set to be operational by Q2 2026, will generate 355 million kWh of clean electricity annually, and will offset approximately 252,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, equivalent to planting nearly 14.8 million trees.
Meanwhile, Neerav Nanavaty, CEO of BluPine Energy, said, "At BluPine Energy, we are committed to delivering clean, reliable, and cost-effective renewable energy solutions that help businesses meet their sustainability goals while remaining competitive. This collaboration with Amazon is a testament to our expertise in developing high-quality renewable energy assets that drive tangible environmental impact. As we scale towards a 1 GW portfolio in the C&I segment, we remain focused on enabling businesses to transition to a cleaner energy future.”
Rahul Mishra, Head—C&I, BluPine Energy, noted that the rising demand for renewable energy, fuelled by increasing electricity costs and sustainability goals, makes strategic partnerships like the one with Amazon essential for accelerating the clean energy transition. He added that BluPine Energy aims to offer affordable, reliable green power to enhance efficiency and competitiveness, having executed over 500 MW of PPAs in 2024.
The firm's wind project at Solapur, Maharashtra, will generate 360 million units (MUs) of renewable electricity annually, powering 115,000 households and offsetting over 250,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, as per the firm.
