Altea Green Power has officially launched the construction of a massive 1GW battery storage system named 'Black Bess' in Italy. This ambitious project comprises four strategic sites located in central-southern Italy and is scheduled for completion by the first half of 2024.
The Black Bess project is a significant addition to the Green Bess, Blue Bess, and Yellow Bess schemes, collectively amassing an impressive total capacity of 2GW.
In a notable development, Altea Green Power is currently in advanced negotiations with two major international investors to co-develop these strategic sites. The collaboration with international partners underscores the global interest in energy storage solutions and the growing potential in the renewable energy sector.
Altea Green Power has set an ambitious goal to achieve a total capacity of 5.5GW of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Italy by 2026. This commitment to substantial storage capacity highlights their confidence in the future of renewable energy and their dedication to playing a pivotal role in advancing the energy transition.
Following the Black Bess project, Altea Green Power plans to introduce 'White Bess' and 'Pink Bess,' each boasting a formidable capacity of 1GW. These projects promise to further enhance the energy storage landscape in Italy and contribute to the country's sustainable energy goals.
It's noteworthy that around 90% of Altea Green Power's projects will be concentrated in central and southern Italy, reflecting the region's suitability for renewable energy initiatives. The remaining 10% will be located in northern Italy, indicating a comprehensive geographical presence across the nation.
