The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) publishes the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) listing a number of solar module producers.

The MNRE has updated the ALMM list 2023 with the addition of 14 new manufacturers. This is the 9th revision since it was first introduced in 2019.

With the purpose of covering the range of manufacturers across the nation, the comprehensive list includes details on net metering and open-access projects. The idea behind introducing this list was to make India self-reliant in solar energy and reduce the dependency on imports.

In addition, the Indian solar producers and manufacturers will take centerstage and the interest of investors in the energy sector will incline towards them. The primary intent of introducing such a list was also to assure the quality of solar panels and the manufacturer’s reliability.

Previously, the list was issued in September 2022 which included 75 solar producers and manufacturers and only domestic manufacturers were mentioned. According to the ALMM order, only the listed solar PV models and module manufacturers can participate in solar projects in the country.

These projects could be – government projects, government-assisted projects, projects under the government, government schemes & programs, open access and net-metering projects.

There are 14 new debutantsto ALMM such as Abhishek Solar Industries Pvt. Ltd, Aatmanirbhar Solar Pvt. Ltd., Ameya Solar & Semiconductor Pvt. Ltd., Agrawal Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd, Sunify Solar LLP, Unique Sun Power LLP, Ankur Traders & Engineers Private Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., Credence Solar Panels Private Limited, Ganesh Electricals Pvt. Ltd, HR Solar Solution Private Limited, Innovative Solar Solutions, Plaza Power & Infrastructure Co. and Urjastrot Enterprise Pvt Ltd.

The first list of ALMM had only 23 solar companies, adding up to 8200 MW of total power generation capacity. Presently, the list has grown significantly and features 89 manufacturers of solar power components and modules.
