Al-Zawraa to Set Up 750 MW Solar Panel Plant in Iraq with Private Sector Partnership
Iraq’s Al-Zawraa General Company plans a 750 MW solar panel plant, partnering with the private sector to boost clean energy, support green financing, and diversify the country’s energy mix.

The Al-Zawraa General Company, operating under Iraq’s Ministry of Industry and Minerals, has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility dedicated to solar panel production.
With a projected annual capacity of 750 MW, the plant is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing Iraq’s transition to clean energy.
Director General Eng. Muhannad Jabbar Alwan underscored the company's extensive experience in delivering solar power systems across various governmental ministries and institutions. He noted that this new facility will adhere to international technical standards and will be developed in collaboration with the private sector.
Currently, the company is conducting technical evaluations of a proposal submitted by a potential partner, with the aim of finalising a formal contract soon. Alwan also stressed the importance of raising public awareness around solar energy, aligning with the Central Bank of Iraq’s green financing initiatives and broader government strategies to diversify the nation’s energy portfolio while promoting environmental sustainability.
