Ahmedabad Takes the Top Position in Solar Power Consumption

Over 2.3 lakh household users have enrolled for Surya Gujarat, a solar rooftop scheme, in the previous two years.

Ahmedabad district ranks top in solar power consumption in the state with 34,794 consumers and its overall installed solar power production potential achieving around 1.54L KW.

Over 2.3 lakh household users have enrolled for Surya Gujarat, a solar rooftop scheme, in the previous two years.

State energy minister Kanu Desai was responding to questions about region-wise attributes on Surya Gujarat, mentioned that over 2.30 lakh consumers residing in 27 districts had enrolled in the scheme for two years applicable till December 31, 2022, with their overall average installed capacity of 922 MW.

Ahmedabad led the state with 34,794 household consumer enrolments, pursued by Vadodara with 33,918, Surat 30,918  and Rajkot 24,118 consumers.

The state of Gujarat tops the nation in terms of solar power production under the solar rooftop scheme.

The scheme has assisted the consumers who conserve huge on their electricity bills and benefitted them earn by selling surplus power supply to companies at a rate of Rs 2.25 per unit.

With the constant upgradation of solar panels technology, along with the changes in tax rates, the prices of solar panels have increased over the last few years.  Whereas prices have gone high, to a certain limit the elevated efficiency of solar panels has aided to maintain the value proposition in the place.
