ACCIONA has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ørsted to evolve solutions together to address the challenge of manufacturing large-scale foundations for offshore wind farms.

The agreement comprises the development of structural and frame models that will avail easily adaptable solutions for offshore wind turbines of distinguish sizes and depths.

Ørsted and ACCIONA will evaluate mass-producing cost-competitive construction solutions based on floating concrete platforms and will explore the use of materials such as bio-cement and bio-concrete.

The collaboration integrates Ørsted's 30-year experience in the progression of offshore wind energy projects with the ACCIONA Infrastructure division's expertise in big-scale construction projects as well as strong knowledge of concrete structures and offshore works.

The European Union has set a goal of attaining 60GW of installed offshore wind power by the year 2030 and 300GW by the year 2050, with this type of wind farms positioning a relevant role in the facilitation of clean energy in the process of the economy’s decarbonisation.

ACCIONA is a Spanish multinational corporate for the development and management of infrastructure, huge experience in all types of construction processes and renewable energy. The entity through subsidiary Acciona Energy generates 21 TWh of renewable electricity a year.

Ørsted is a multinational power company headquartered in Fredericia, Denmark. Earlier, the company was known as DONG.
