37 SMA Sunny Central 800-CP inverters to power 40 MW PV power plant in Rajasthan

The inverters are perfectly suited for the harsh climatic conditions in Rajasthan.

A 40 MW PV power plant in Rajasthan, India, equipped with 37 SMA Sunny Central 800-CP inverters has gone into operation last month. The Nagaur PV power project by the Indian solar power producer Azure Power is one of the largest PV power plants in India so far.

Azure Power was able to commission the project earlier than scheduled due to an early preparation of the site facilities and a quick completion of the installation activities. The SMA service engineers from several service hubs were thus able to complete the commissioning of the PV power plant within just one week. In advance SMA service engineers had also supported Azure Power experts during the pre-commissioning phase.

“We are very satisfied with the cooperation with SMA Solar Technology AG and with the performance of the Sunny Central CP inverters”, says Interpreet Wadhwa, CEO, Azure Power. “We are following our vision of providing affordable solar power for generations. Therefore Azure Power is carrying out extensive research and development to bring down the costs of energy for the end consumer.“

For the extremely dry and hot climate in Nagaur with frequent sandstorms in summer, large temperature variations and highly irregular rainfall the Sunny Central 800-CP inverters with their robust outdoor enclosure and with the intelligent OptiCool cooling concept are perfectly suited. Together with First Solar modules the inverters are running a full load of nearly 880 kW at times of peak irradiation during the day. The plant will be instrumental in offsetting about 66,000 metric tons of CO2 per year and hence would help contribute to climate change mitigation.

Since autumn 2010, SMA has been present in Mumbai with its own Sales and Service company. Rakesh Khanna, Managing Director, SMA India and his colleagues support various PV power projects with SMA technology, including several large-scale projects in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
