For electrolyser manufacturing, contracts have been awarded or are under process for a capacity of 3,000 MW per annum, stated Minister of State in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) Shripad Yesso Naik in the Rajya Sabha.

He further added that for green hydrogen production, capacity has been awarded for 4,12,000 tons per annum.

This assumes significance as MNRE is implementing National Green Hydrogen Mission with an objective to make India a global hub of production, usage and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. The mission was approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2023 with an overall outlay of INR 19,744 crore.

The Mission targets over INR 8 lakh crore in investments, creating more than six lakh jobs, reducing fossil fuel imports by INR 1 lakh crore, and cutting nearly 50 MMT of annual greenhouse gas emissions.

Naik stated that under the mission, the government support in the form of financial incentives up to INR 13,050 crore has been earmarked for the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives in order to create a competitive green hydrogen market in the country.

Additionally, an outlay of INR 4,440 crore has been allocated for giving incentives for domestic electrolyser manufacturing.

Further, Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) charges have been waived off by the Ministry of Power for those production plants of green hydrogen and its derivatives, if commissioned by December, 2030.
