127 GW of RE Projects Under Construction, 89 GW in Tendering Stage: MoS Power Shripad Naik
India has 127 GW of renewable energy under construction and 89 GW in various stages of tendering, with the government targeting over 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, stated Minister of State for Ministry of Power Shripad Naik in the Rajya Sabha.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Power Shripad Naik, in a reply in the Rajya Sabha, shared that 127 GW of renewable energy is under construction and about 89 GW is under various stages of tendering.
While the current installed capacity for RE power is about 203 GW, the government has committed to augment non-fossil fuel-based installed electricity generation capacity to over 500 GW by 2030.
Naik asserted that the government has addressed the critical issue of power deficiency by adding about 222 GW of generation capacity since April, 2014 transforming the country from power deficit to power sufficient.
He further stated that there is adequate availability of power in the country with present installed generation capacity of the country being pegged at about 454 GW.
Naik informed that the Ministry of Power, in consultation with States, has envisaged a plan to add a thermal capacity of a minimum of 80 GW by 2031-32. Against this target, 29.2 GW thermal capacity is already under construction while about 51.5 GW is at various stages of planning and development.
He further shared that 7,300 MW of nuclear capacity is under construction and 7,000 MW is under various stages of planning and approval.
On the hydroelectric power and pumped storage sector, he updated that about 14 GW of hydroelectric projects and 6,050 MW of pumped storage projects (PSP) are under construction.
Additionally, about 24 GW of hydroelectric projects and 50.760 GW of PSP are under various stages of planning and are targeted to be completed by 2031-32.
