Mines closing /abandoned /discontinued due to exhaustion of reserves, safety & economic

Last three years, dispatch of coal to Power Utilities have been 91%, 92% and 86% of FSA/MOU commitment in 2011-12, 2012-13 & 2013-14

Every year, some mines are closed / abandoned / discontinued due to exhaustion of reserves, safety and economic viability. To compensate this loss and augment the production, new Projects are opened and capacity of ongoing projects is enhanced wherever feasible.
 
Government has taken various steps to ensure time bound production which include efforts to expedite Environment & Forest clearances, pursuing with State Government for help in expediting land acquisition and coordinated effort with Railways for movement of coal. Steps have been taken by Coal India Ltd. and its subsidiaries to augment coal production which includes capacity addition from new projects and use of mass production technologies.
